By now, most are aware of the story of the Greenville, South Carolina priest who told his parishioners that any who voted for pro-abortion candidate, Barack Obama, needs to be reconciled to God through penance before receiving Holy Communion and of that priest being, consequently, thrown under the bus by his superiors.
Msgr. Martin Laughlin,Diocese of Charleston Administrator issued a statement that contradicts Rev. Jay Scott Newman and Msgr. Laughlin has forbidden Fr. Newman from giving interviews on the subject.
Brian Mershon has posted a copy of a memorandum from Laughlin, dated October 16,2008, telling his priests not to rock the proverbial IRS tax exemption boat.
After reading the memorandum, I sent an email to Msgr. Laughlin (mlaughlin@catholic-doc.org) and I've pasted a copy of the email below :

Dear Rev. Msgr.Laughlin,
I have read your EMAIL MEMORANDUM of October 16, 2008.
I want to thank you for seeing that the church's tax exempt is much
more important than the teaching of the Gospels. We all know that it's
all about the money....or what your twin W.C.Fields called the
"elusive spondulicks".
We must not allow the IRS to take away our money. Good job.

Dear Sir:
ReplyDeleteYou neither know Fr Newman nor Msgr Laughlin. If you did, you'd never have put the picture of WCFields next to Msgr Laughlin's. You also would have been more careful to see the truth of what he said. Such character assassination is sinful.
Msgr. Laughlin stated,
ReplyDelete"Christ gives us freedom to explore our own conscience and to make our own decisions while adhering to the law of God and the teachings of the faith."
I've explored my own conscience and I disagree with your opinion of my post.
Robert:
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting Msgr. Laughlin's email address. I sent an email to him reminding him that we need to have an informed conscience. I wish the priests and Bishops who have lost their faith would simply leave.
Annie
You're welcome.
