The current salary for a US President is $400,000 per year, with a $50,000 expense account, a $100,000 nontaxable travel account, and $19,000 for entertainment.
It seems to me, given that income, a rare $30,000 rhodium Harmony Ring is just a wee bit extravagant.
During the campaign,Obama often told us that ordinary Americans were hurting.
I'm not quite sure how this helps the common man.....must be his version of trickle down economics.
A real man of the people.

December 03,2008 Update:
I'm no Drudge.
You know, he makes more than 120 k, is he going to be paying higher taxes, doubt it.
ReplyDeleteobama's networth is @1mil
ReplyDeleteso 30 grand on the future first lady's ring...not unreasonable
research avg cost and pct. of income
spent on engagement and weeding rings
1)this isn't a wedding ring or engagement ring.
ReplyDelete2)Obama made of point of criticizing CEOs and other fat cats for being out of touch with the common man. Now, he shows himself to be just another 2-bit pol.
Anon - "unreasonable" pct's aside...I'd have more respect for the man if he "spread his wealth" around, just to be fair.
ReplyDeletei was comparing ring cost in regards obama's networth , not what he will make as prez.
ReplyDeleteengagement/wedding ring was mentioned just for comparison purpose , good jewelry is expensive and to point out that if your worth a mill 30 grand is not a lot to spend on ring
mcCain is worth @ 40 mil (not counting wife's money) and doesnt know how many houses he owns and wife's jewelery is worth more than any of us will make in our lifetime.
hey john , how bout one of your houses your not using?
report that the story is BS
http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/12/02/barack-obama-not-buying-michelle-obama-30k-ring/
here's a proper link to the story that anonymous left...no ring.
ReplyDeleteI suppose we have to take the Obama Press Office at their word; Michelle's not getting the ring.
Still, anonymous wants to redirect the argument by bringing McCain into this. That comparison misses the point.McCain wasn't about spreading the wealth.McCain never suggested that he knew how to use your money better than you do.
Any way......McCain could be the biggest jerk in the world and that wouldn't excuse Obama. Two wrongs don't make a right.
