Somewhere in a difficult to access region of my mind, there is a vague recollection that I may have, at one time agreed with something Kathleen Parker wrote. I feel as if there must have been one occasion, but I can't remember when or what the subject might have been.
There's no question now that I find little to agree with in her piece, A nose-holding word to the disaffected: Vote.
When it comes to the three remaining Presidential candidates, I am one of those Americans that Parker refers to as "stranded in a political no-man’s land".
I do agree that this year's election for POTUS is the ultimate "nose-holding while voting" situation. However, unlike Parker, I will no longer engage in that exercise in futility. She admits that no sane person could support either Bernie Sanders or Donald Trump, and she knows that Hillary Clinton is an unprincipled, corrupt liar, yet she maintains that Clinton is the "one candidate for whom this middle bloc of voters could reasonably stomach voting."
Sorry, Ms Parker, but no.
In 2008, my top choice for POTUS was the Libertarian candidate, Bob Barr, but when Barack Obama became the Democrat candidate I wrongly believed that I should not "throw my vote away", and I made the horrible mistake of voting for John McCain and Sarah Palin. I will never vote that way again.
I will no longer vote for the lesser of two evils. I will no longer vote for one candidate because I hate him or her slightly less than the opponent.
Many Trump supporters maintain that a no-show is a vote for Hillary. The Clinton campaign will say a no-show is a vote for Trump. It can't be both ways. I cannot support either Clinton or Trump......the U.S. will continue it's dumpster-dive whoever wins. Neither candidate will receive my vote.

Still, Never Trump
One of my Facebook friends who supports Trump, posted a video of Sarah Palin asking us to unite behind Donald Trump.
Sorry, Sarah......not just "No", but "Hell, no!". I cannot support Trump for POTUS. Not now, not ever. As much as I despise Hillary Clinton, I cannot throw my lot with probably the only person more narcissistic than the current President.
I'm not nearly as fearful of Clinton as I am of Trump.A Hillary Clinton Presidency will not be a pretty thing to watch, but she is the new Richard Nixon. Her time in office will not last one full term. Should she beat Trump, her basic unlike-ability with the American public will not save her from impeachment when the FBI finally presents it's report.
I've never been a fan of Trump, but the straw has now broken the proverbial camel's back with Trump pushing the story that Ted Cruz' father was somehow involved with Lee Freakin' Harvey Oswald.....I know politics ain't beanbag, but this is an all time low.

Three Cheers For National Review.
Back in September of 2015, [Obama/Trump. Two Sides of the Same Coin.] I opined that the American people seem to have once again fallen under the sway of a cult of personality by their new found love for Donald Trump.
It's been suggested that Obama may see a Hillary Clinton victory as an endorsement of his policies; a third Obama term, if you will. But, the same can almost be said of a Trump victory. While we can't be sure at this point, what actual policies Trump would support, a Trump victory would be the third term for the narcissistic empty suit agenda.
National Review, the self described "most widely read and influential magazine and web site for conservative news, commentary, and opinion" has taken the controversial step of going full throttle against Trump. Following in the footsteps of it's founder, the brillant Conservative, William F. Buckley Jr., the magazine could not have done otherwise.
Donald Trump is not a Conservative by any stretch of the imagination. How could any reasonable person argue with that position?
Sarah Palin's endorsement of Trump does not change that fact.
Kathleen Parker may be right when she wrote:
"William F. Buckley’s conservatism seems headed for the door......"
but, her putting the blame on National Review seems to me to be an attempt to get back at the magazine for having dropped her column in 2008.
In my heart of hearts, I'd love to see Hillary Clinton indicted over her email scandal before she gets the Democrat nomination. Donald Trump might be the only candidate the Republicans could nominate that would not trounce Clinton. Trump might have a chance against Bernie Sanders.......I'd like to think Americans are too smart to elect someone who is to the Left of Obama. Honestly, I'm not encouraged.
I try not to make comparisons between any politician and Adolf Hitler or Joseph Stalin. That always seems to be a bit over the top for me. In this case, however, I might make a slight exception. If there's any politician who reminds me of Benito Mussolini, it's Donald Trump.

Trump, Palin and Cruz
I learned two amazing facts today:
1) Bristol Palin has a blog at patheos.com
2) Bristol Palin did not go to Harvard Law School.
OK, I'm not really amazed that BP did not go to Harvard Law School, but I do find it amazing that she felt it was necessary to tell us......like we might be confused about that otherwise.
I discovered this information via an article at thehill.com, Bristol Palin: I hope my mom endorses Trump.
Ms Palin has her proverbial knickers in a twist - I say "proverbial" as I have no evidence that she actually wears knickers (for any length of time, at any rate) - over a statement from someone in Ted Cruz' camp that it would be a blow to Sarah Palin's credibility should Palin endorse Donal Trump.
Of course, some of you might be surprised that Sarah Palin has any credibility, but that's not the issue.
Cruz campaign spokesman Rick Tyler had said on CNN
"I think it [would] be a blow to Sarah Palin, because Sarah Palin has been a champion for the conservative cause, and if she was going to endorse Donald Trump, sadly, she would be endorsing someone who’s held progressive views all their life on the sanctity of life, on marriage, on partial-birth abortion"
At this point, I'm not supporting either Trump or Cruz - I don't have a dog in this fight, but I do agree with Tyler's point that Trump has not been consistently Conservative on the issues. Trump is not an idealogue by any stretch of the imagination.
In her blog, Bristol Palin calls Tyler's comment "a slam" against her mother. News flash - criticism isn't always "a slam".
If one wants to see a real example of a slam, read Bristol Palin's blog post where she slams Ted Cruz.

Number One Quote of the Day.
Of the 'lamestream media' and their 'relationship' with Sarah Palin and her “One Nation” bus tour, Monica Crowley writes,
"They hate her so much, and yet they’re forced to chase her like 12 year old girls running after Justin Bieber."

Business as Usual.

Pelosi, Boxer defend Obama's move on Libya.
and
Sarah Palin Tells Greta Van Susteren What Obama Is Doing Wrong In Libya.
As President Obama's apparent military adviser might say, "Surprise, surprise, surprise!"
Can we really expect anything different from those on the Left or the Right?
There's no need to read either article.....we already know what Pelosi, Boxer and Palin have to say about Obama, just as we know what the three would say if it were a Republican POTUS doing the very same thing.
CNN is reporting that this is not a War while Fox tells us how the U.S. Escalates Libya War.
War or not, expect us to be involved for quite some time.

An Early Look at 2012.

On her blog, Linda Grass says that she had her ".... wake-up moment about Sarah Palin when she endorsed Rand Paul who also supports the morning after pill, is not fully behind the federal partial-birth abortion ban and even committed fraud against Kentucky Right to Life by turning over a forged document when they did not endorse him over pro-lifer Trey Grayson".
I've been uneasy over Palin for quite some time and like Graas, I certainly couldn't support any candidate who goes against Catholic teaching regarding abortion. ( By Catholic teaching I mean authentic Catholic teaching, not Catholic teaching as interpreted by cafeteria Catholics like Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden and John Kerry ). Graas suggests that social Conservatives get behind "Michele Bachmann, Mike Huckabee, Tim Pawlenty, Newt Gingrich….or some other social conservative for President".
Good idea.
I'm not ready to comment on Bachman or Pawlenty yet. True, I've only heard positive things about the two from fellow Conservatives; still, I'd rather look further before voting for either. There's no way I can support Huckabee. His stirring up of anti-Mormon prejudice among fundamentalist Christians towards Romney in 2008 removes him from my list of Presidential candidates (unless, of course, it came down to choosing Huckabee or Obama - then, I'd have to hold my nose and pick the Huckster).
This leaves Newt. From a strictly political perspective, Newt would win my vote, hands down. However, his history of multiple marriages, divorces and adultery is problematic. In his favor, Gingrich has converted to Catholicism. If his conversion is authentic, then I'd have no problem casting a vote for him. Being able to forgive is part of what we as Christians are called to do. If he's truly turned over a new leaf, then he has my support. With Newt's natural inclination for smaller government and the Church's teaching on subsidiarity, we might be able to turn this country around.
It's impossible to know what is inside someone's heart, but I'm willing to give Gingrich the benefit of the doubt for the time being.

Sarah Palin's Turkey in the Interview Video Redux.
Sarah Palin is in the news now thanks to the tremendous response to her book, Going Rogue.
Thanksgiving is tomorrow and I thought it would be appropriate to post the Sarah Palin Turkey getting slaughtered video from last year. Going to Youtube, I found the uncensored version.
Enjoy.

Sarah's Resignation.

Is this going to help her or hurt her in 2012?
I like her, so I fall into the camp that believes it won't hurt. Those that don't like her just don't like her and this really makes no difference in their assessment.
Will I vote for her in the 2012 Republican primary? That depends. I actually still prefer Romney, but we'll just wait and see.

Palin Helps Chambliss Win Georgia.
Alaska Governor Sarah Palin came to Georgia to give her support. It looks as if the reports of Palin's political demise are premature. Conservatives still love her and having her campaign for Chambliss was a big help.
It speaks volumes that The One did not come down here to help Martin. True, he did a few radio ads, but, you'd think that the President-Elect would come here in person.
Obviously, the Obama camp knew that his coming to Georgia would not help Martin win. Had he campaigned for Martin it would have been seen as a lost for Obama and he didn't want to risk that.

Novena for Faithful Citizenship.
Of course, every U.S. Presidential election is important, but for the pro-life, conservative religious person the situation could not be more critical.
I'm not John McCain's biggest fan. I didn't vote for him in the Republican primary; saying that I am disappointed in his being the Republican candidate would be an understatement. When it became clear that he was the GOP's pick, I began to seriously look at third party candidates. Bob Barr had been my representative when he was in Congress and going to his side was an easy choice for me.
There were two things that brought me around to McCain. First, his picking Sarah Palin for VP.
I had written about Palin in August before McCain made his preference known. [Who will McCain Pick?] Back then, everyone was saying he'd choose Leberman or Romney or Pawlenty and I wasn't happy. I was hoping he'd go against the conventional wisdom, but I wasn't optimistic. When I heard he picked Palin, I was enthusiastic about the race for the first time.
Secondly, I was growing increasingly weary of Barack Obama. I was uncomfortable with his socialist leanings and his pro abortion views made him unacceptable.....but it was his votes on the Illinois version of the Born Alive Infant Protection Act that frightened me most of all.[Matthew 25 Obama and Abortion.]
It's hard for me to believe that the American people would vote for someone with such a callous disregard for innocent human life.
I've done my part. I've already voted here in Georgia. [Vote Early-Vote Often]
All I can do now is pray.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops published a Novena for Faithful Citizenship and is available as podcasts or as a pdf. [http://www.faithfulcitizenship.org/resources/podcasts]
Although they asked that people pray the novena on nine consecutive Tuesdays up until the election (too late for that) they said one could create any combination that works. There's certainly enough time between now and the election to pray the novena.
Adding a Rosary every day wouldn't hurt.

Obama / Palin ?

As I mentioned in that post, a friend had sent a copy of an email that had been sent to him and he wanted my 2 cents' worth on the whole thing. Here' the email:
"Let me share some info with you that I have gotten from excellent sources within the DNC: On or about October 5th, Biden will excuse himself from the ticket, citing health problems, and he will be replaced by Hillary. This is timed to occur after the VP debate on 10/2. There have been talks all weekend about how to proceed with this info. generally, the feeling is that we should all go ahead and get it> out there to as many blog sites and personal email lists as is possible. I have already seen a few short blurbs about this - the 'healthproblem' cited in those articles was aneurysm. Probably many of you have heard the same rumblings. However, at this point, with this inside info from the DNC, it looks like this Obama strategy will be a go. Therefore, it seems that the best strategy is to get out in front of this Obama maneuver, spell it out in detail, and thereby expose it for the grand manipulation that it is. So, let's start mixing this one up and cut the Obamites off at the pass - send this info out to as many people as you can - post about it on websites and blogs - etc etc"
First thing I did when I decided to blog this was to do a Google search on the story. I found this:
Joe Biden's Health -part deaux.
My linking to this blog was, basically, an afterthought.
Linking to coastalcompanion has turned out to be.....well, amazing. According to Google Analytics, my hits have gone thru the roof; all because of the traffic that has come my way via the "Links to this Post".
But, more to the point.
Evidently, quite a few people have been getting emails on this particular rumor. I don't know if there was ever really any substance behind it, but my belief is that the rumor probably isn't true.
I doubt is the individual State ballot laws would allow the last minute substitution of Hillary for Biden.
Let's image, for a minute, though, that the Dems do the switch. Some States ( like my home state of Georgia ) have already begun advanced voting. I'm sure that a few a those advanced voters choose the Obama / Biden ticket. Fast forward to November. I can't believe that those votes that were already cast for Biden would automatically transfer to Hillary.
Let's suppose, Obama wins the election.....barely. If some voters choose Hillary and some choose Biden, then it's quite possible that Palin would receive more votes than either.
Would that mean Obama as POTUS and Palin as VPOTUS ?
How about this as an Internet rumor?

Too bad, it's not real.

Sadly, as the article points out, the image is the product of someone's vivid imagination..... and Photoshop. The head is, obviously, hers, but the body is not. Just a little nip-tuck and voila !
Actually, the photo looks pretty realistic; much better than I could do. Someone did have the good sense to put the words "digitally altered" onto the photo.

NARAL supports Biden.....slams Palin.

"Most notably, Sen. Biden has a strong record of opposing judicial nominees with hostile anti-choice [pro-life] records. He voted against George W. Bush's two anti-choice [pro-life] nominees to the U.S. Supreme Court, John Roberts and Samuel Alito, and he opposed anti-choice [pro-life] Justice Clarence Thomas' nomination to the Court as well as multiple anti-choice [pro-life] nominees to lower federal courts."
"Americans are tired of the kind of divisive anti-choice [pro-life] policies that Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin have pledged to continue to support. The contrast between pro-choice [pro-abortion/pro-infanticide] Sen. Obama and anti-choice [pro-life] Sen. McCain is clear. Voters are looking for a leader who respects women’s freedom and privacy. Barack Obama is that leader."
So, the choice is clear......if you are pro-life, vote for McCain/Palin. If you support abortion on demand and infanticide choose Obama/Biden.

Drilling in ANWR.

The environment is too fragile....whatever gains we may see will be minuscule. So goes the argument.
In an ad from defenders.org , drilling in ANWR will give us a "toxic wasteland where there was once a publicly owned wildlife refuge".
Many fear that, somehow, our mere presence in the area is enough to endanger life there. This is in spite of facts to the contrary. From an article at anwr.org,
"Petroleum development at Prudhoe Bay has not negatively affected wildlife. For instance, the Central Arctic caribou herd is at home with pipeline facilities and has grown from 3,000 to as high as 27,100 in the last 20 years. Drilling activity in ANWR would be limited to winter months when wildlife does not frequent the coastal plain."
But, just for the sake of argument.....let's say that oil drilling threatened the environment......then why would we only limit the restrictions to ANWR ? If oil drilling is bad in ANWR then it would be environmentally bad in Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Iraq, Iran and everywhere else we do it.
Logically, if you are opposed to drilling in ANWR, then you are an oil greedy hypocrite if you don't insist we stop all oil drilling world-wide. Logically, if oil drilling is too dangerous for caribou then it would be too dangerous for the humans that live in the populated regions where we already drill. Is that what the Left want ?
Alaska Governor - and now Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, supports drilling in ANWR . I'm sure most Americans would agree with her if they were aware of the true facts.

I'm Switching to .....McCain/Palin.
As soon as it was clear that McCain would be the candidate, I immediately decided that, should the Libertarians pick someone I could support, I'd go Libertarian all the way.
The Libertarians did just that when they picked Bob Barr as their Presidential candidate.Barr had been my representative in Congress many years ago and I was happy to see him in the race.
I had placed a few banner links on this blog for Barr, the Libertarian Party and The Libertarians for Life. As you can see, those banner links are no longer there.
I was willing to vote Barr, even if it meant that the Electoral College votes would favor the Democrats.
I wasn't 100% happy with that decision; the more I learned about Obama's views on abortion and the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, the more I realized that having Obama as President would be a disaster.
Still, it was difficult for me to support McCain....that is until he picked Sarah Palin as his VP running mate.
This is an excellent choice. A paragraph from a Washington Post article says it best,
"Picking Palin also helps McCain consolidate his party's conservative base, which has been at best lukewarm toward his candidacy. The governor's conservative credentials are not in doubt, whether on abortion or gun rights or gay rights. The announcement of her elevation to the Republican ticket brought an outpouring of enthusiasm from the right flank of the GOP and will assure a more energized convention next week in St. Paul, Minn."
With this move, McCain has taken my vote from Bob Barr.
In a perfect world, I would still prefer Barr, but I have to be pragmatic. We cannot have Obama as President......Barr has no chance of winning and Palin makes McCain look good.
