Misplaced Blame.

This past Sunday evening,Jim David Adkisson allegedly entered the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville and killed two people and wounded six others during a presentation of a children's musical.
He was subdued by several church members after firing three rounds from a 12-gauge shotgun.
News accounts mention that, following a search of the shooter's home, police officers found copies of "Liberalism is a Mental Health Disorder" by radio talk show host Michael Savage, "Let Freedom Ring" by talk show host Sean Hannity, and "The O'Reilly Factor," by television talk show host Bill O'Reilly all described as "right-wing political books" by the Knoxville paper .
Obviously, this a not-so-subtle attempt to tie killers to conservative talk radio.
Adkisson wrote a four-page letter in which he stated his "hatred of the liberal movement," and "Liberals in general, as well as gays." and as The Unitarian Universalist Church espouses "liberal" views, then, by the convoluted logic of the press, talk radio inspired Adkisson.

As Neal Boortz pointed out on his program, very little is mentioned in the press about the similarities between the writings of the Unabomber and Al Gore. Boortz talked about an online quiz which uses quotes from either Al Gore's book Earth in the Balance or from the Unabomber's Manifesto and you are asked to answer who wrote what....Gore or the Unabomber.

Un Cuil.

I came across this article on My Way News- Ex-Google engineers debut 'Cuil' way to search.
In it, writer Michael Liedtke swoons over ex Google employee Anna Patterson's new search engine, Cuil.
Pronounced "cool", it's said the name was derived from a character named Finn McCuill in Celtic folklore. According to wikipedia, the mythical hunter-warrior of Irish mythology was actually called Fionn mac Cumhaill and Finn McCool is the Anglicised version. I guess Patterson and her husband, Tom Costello, and two other former Google engineers - Russell Power and Louis Monier - who started Cuil thought Cumhaill might not be such a good name for a search engine.
I won't go into all the wonderful things Liedtke has to say about Cuil but I can tell you that I am not as impressed as he is.
I went to Cuil.com and searched for a few things and found that not only is it not better than Google, it doesn't even come close. I can't imagine the folks at Google will be losing sleep over their latest competitor.

The Cord Sponsors.

Yesterday, my wife and I were participants in the wedding of two of our friends. It was a traditional Catholic/Filipino ceremony in which my wife and I were the cord sponsors.
For those unfamiliar with this, the cord sponsors stand up during the ceremony with a cord that is in the form of a figure eight. The loops are loosely placed around the neck and shoulder area of the couple. This symbolizes the infinite bond of marriage.
I also gave the second reading which was from the First Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians and I'm including the reading below;

SECOND READING: 1 Corinthians 12:31- 13:8a

A reading from the First Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians
Brothers and sisters:
Strive eagerly for the greatest spiritual gifts.
But I shall show you a still more excellent way.

If I speak in human and angelic tongues
But do not have love,
I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.
And if I have the gift of prophecy
And comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge;
If I have all faith so as to move mountains,
But do not have love, I am nothing.

If I give away everything I own,
And if I hand my body over so that I may boast
But do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind.
It is not jealous, is not pompous,
It is not inflated, it is not rude
It does not seek its own interests,
It is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not
Rejoice over wrong-doing
But rejoices with the truth.

It bears all things, believes all things,
Hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails.

The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Latest Zogby Poll.

From Zogby International .
Pollster John Zogby's analysis:
"For the time being, Obama maintains the edge and has the strength of a majority of electoral votes. His triumphant foreign trip allows him to continue to define this race. But too many of these states are close and a sizable number are undecided or choosing a third party candidate. So there is a lot of fluidity."

Misguided RCWP.

A group going by the name Roman Catholic Womenpriests has "ordained" 3 women "priests" and 1 woman as deacon in a ceremony held at Church of the Covenant, a Presbyterian Church (USA) in Boston MA this past Sunday.
This "ordination" was carried out in spite of a Vatican decree that says women's ordination incurs automatic excommunication.
On the groups web site, they state;
"Roman Catholic Womenpriests reject the penalty of excommunication issued by the Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith on May 29, 2008 stating that the 'women priests and the bishops who ordain them would be excommunicated latae sententiae.'”
A press release from the Archdiocese of Boston states, very clearly;
"The organization calling itself 'Roman Catholic Womenpriests' is not recognized as an entity of the Catholic Church. Catholics who attempt to confer a sacred order on a woman, and the women who attempt to receive a sacred order, are by their own actions separating themselves from the Church."
It's very telling that the group could not have the "ordination" at a Catholic Church.....but had to use a Presbyterian Church.
I don't understand why a Church would wish to interfere with the internal workings of a different denomination. Frankly, the Presbyterians should mind their own business.
I don't understand the "logic" of the Roman Catholic Womenpriests (RCWP) group.
Why would anyone choose the Catholic Church over another denomination?
It seems to me that the reason to choose one Christian church over another is because that Church is the true Church of Jesus Christ and as such, is guided by the Holy Spirit.
Obviously, the RCWP believes that the Catholic Church is in error in it's decision to prohibit the ordination of women. If the Church is in error, then it cannot be guided by the Holy Spirit. If it isn't guided by the Holy Spirit, then why remain in the Catholic Church?
It sounds to me as if RCWP is just another group of misguided individuals who want the Church to conform to their views.

"Myer-ed" in Muck.

After anti-Catholic University of Minnesota Morris biology professor, Paul Zachary Myers, threatened to desecrate the Eucharist and to broadcast the act on the internet ,beliefnet blogger, cruncycon, wrote of Myers;

"If P.Z. Myers had any guts, he would put out a call for someone to send him a Koran so he could blow his nose and wrap fish in it. After all, it's nothing but frackin' ink on paper, right? So what's stopping you, Big Man? It's easy to shit on what Catholics regard as sacred. But just try doing the same thing to what Muslims regard as sacred. Let's see what you're made of.

(I should underscore here that I am not advocating intentional desecration of anybody's religion. I'm using sarcasm to make a point about the selective bigotry of P.Z. Myers. Besides which, I think we all know if a professor at a major American university had issued a public call for people to send him a Koran or a Torah for the purpose of desecrating them, it would be front page news. Does anybody doubt that?"

As pointed out in an article on catholicleague.org [MYERS STILL WANTS TO ABUSE EUCHARIST; SHOWS DEFERENCE TO ISLAM]

"......he was critical of the Danish cartoons that simply depicted an image of Muhammad. ‘They [the cartoons] lack artistic or social or even comedic merit, and are presented as an insult to inflame a poor minority.’ So now the Planet-of-the-Apes biologist has divined himself an expert on the artistic value of cartoons. So thoughtful of him. He even went so far as to say that Muslims ‘have cause to be furious.’ (His italic.) Worthy of burning down churches, pledging to behead Christians and shooting a nun in the back, Professor Myers?"

We all know why Myers doesn't desecrate the Qur'an as he would the Eucharist. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Bob "barred" from the Debates?

On June 4th, Libertarian presidential candidate, Bob Barr, urged Obama and McCain to engage in a weekly debate over the important issues facing our nation.
As you can see, the Republican and Democrat candidates choose not to debate Barr.
The question now, is whether or not Barr will be a participant in the debates sponsored by the
Commission on Presidential Debates.
The CPD lists on their website three criteria for candidates to determine whether or not that candidate qualifies.
1.Evidence of Constitutional Eligibility:
There's not question that Barr does that.
2.Evidence of Ballot Access:
This is defined as, "The CPD's second criterion requires that the candidate qualify to have his/her name appear on enough state ballots to have at least a mathematical chance of securing an Electoral College majority in the 2008 general election."
At last count, Barr had ballot access in 31 States. In a theoretical sense, that would give him a "mathematical chance".
3.Indicators of Electoral Support:
This requires that the candidate have a level of support of at least 15% of the electorate.
So far, Barr is polling at 6% nationwide.
I'm not sure how he can reach the 15% requirement.
In June, 1992, third party candidate, Ross Perot led the national public opinion polls with support from 39% of the voters, so it is possible for a candidate to buck the system.
Barr, however, isn't getting the media attention Perot got on 1992. I'm not going to hold my breathe while waiting for magazine covers
featuring Barr's picture the way Time magazine featured Perot in '92.

Comment on the Blog Readability Test.

blog readability test

TV Reviews

Reading Dom's blog, villageidiotsavant lead me to a blog called caffeinesparks and this post... blog-readability. That post lead me to a website that judges a blog's "readability".....that is, on what level of education is needed by a reader to understand a blog.
If I put the url for this blog, I managed to get a High School reading level, but if I put in the url for individual posts - http://sorryalltheclevernamesaretaken.blogspot.com/2008/07/food-for-thought.html or http://sorryalltheclevernamesaretaken.blogspot.com/2008/07/dubai-detains-79-forstupidity.html for example - I get the coveted genius reading level.
There seems to be a flaw, of sorts, with the site's testing. Why else would there be a difference?
Caffeinesparks writer laments that another blog, restyo.blogspot only receives the High School award as well. However, if you check individual posts, like I did with mine, resty's blog gets the genius award too.
I wouldn't put too much stock in the test's results; if you read the two examples from my blog, you'll see you hardly need be a genius to understand what I write.

Dubai detains 79 for.....stupidity.

How can people can so stupid?
You'd think, after last week's arrest of British nationals,Vince Acors and Michelle Palmer for drunken, public sex on Jumeirah Beach in Dubai, most foreigners there would use a bit of discretion.
Not so.
According to news reports, [Dubai detains 79 for indecent behavior on beaches Dubai gets tough on nudity after sex show ] at least 79 have been arrested in Dubai for "disturbing families enjoying the beach" by engaging in "topless sunbathing, nudity and other forms of indecent behaviour".
It's not like they weren't warned. If a blogger living half-way around the world has heard about the arrest of Acors and Palmer then, surely, everyone staying in Dubai knows about it.
From one article:
"Signs warning tourists in Arabic, English and several other languages not to sunbathe topless or change clothes in public has been erected, along with watchtowers.
Police have warned that first-time offenders may be issued with a warning, but if caught twice, tourists could be referred to the public prosecutor for possible criminal charges."
So, these 79 were caught twice?
How many more were caught once, but were smart enough not to be caught a second time?
The point isn't whether or not you agree with Dubai's policy on public nudity. Anyone with an ounce of common sense should know that it's not going to be tolerated in a Muslim country.

Sex Sells.....but, you already knew that.

Thanks, in part, to one of my blog posts being linked to rocketnews.com my two posts from yesterday [can-she-still-wear-white-wedding-dress? and michelles-partner-in-crime] generated more than the usual amount of traffic to the blog.
As you may recall, those posts dealt with the story of two British nationals - Vince Acors and Michelle Palmer- who now face a possible six year prison sentence in Dubai on charges stemming from drunken, public sex on Jumeirah Beach.
This is similar to the increased traffic I received with two posts [video-of-surgery-.... and philippine-surgery-video-update] that covered a story of emergency room doctors in Cebu removing an aerosol can from a man's rectum and a video of the operation showing up on You Tube.
It just goes to show, that stories about sex (and misfortune) bring in the people.
While it is nice to receive hits from new visitors, it would be much nicer if some of them would click on my Google ads.

Michelle's partner in crime.

Surfing the Internet, you'll find lots of updates on a story I commented on earlier; [Can she still wear a white wedding dress?]. It's the story of Michelle Palmer and Vince Acors, whose drunken romp on the beach landed the pair in a jail in Dubai. Both are now facing up to six years in prison. You see, public sex between drunken, unmarried couples (who happen, also, to be foreigners) is frowned upon in Dubai.
Who'd a-thunk-it?
It's said the Dubai authorities intend on using Michelle and Vince as an example and will, surely throw the book at them. (the Qur'an,no doubt).
The two had been reported to have been considering marriage in an effort to placate the powers that be, but have now been said to have reconsidered.
Michelle's employer,ITP Publishing Group has fired her. Vince owns his own business so he may be better off in that regard. Perhaps, if they may it out of Dubai in one piece,he can give her a job.

Links:
Beach cop saw Michelle on top.
First picture of British businessman whose Dubai beach tryst could put him and his lover in jail for six years .

Update:
Here's a photo of Vince from The World Telemedia Corinthia Challenge Cup.

Can she still wear a white wedding dress?

Cape Cod National Seashore officials say that the number of public sex acts committed on their beaches have increased steadily over the past year, with reported incidences going from 40 to 132.
According to an article on Boston Herald.com
"Complaints have included whale-watchers sailing past large groups of nude men, and families stumbling upon people engaged in sex acts on the pristine national shore that attracts tens of thousands of vacationers from throughout the world each year.
One complaint, issued in 2007, was from a New Jersey family walking in the dunes who encountered couples and a large group of men having “sex in the nude, including oral and anal sex right out in the open,”

No one seems to know why there's an increase......but, it could turn out to be a world-wide phenomenon. There's no mention in the article as to how much the fine is for public sex in the Cape Cod area, but I'm sure it isn't as steep as the punishment that could very well be given to British businesswoman, Michelle Palmer who was caught having drunken, public sex in Dubai.
An article in the sun.co.uk reports that Palmer, who works for a magazine firm in Dubai, had been drinking champagne at an morning brunch which, in turn, became an all day drinking binge and sex on the beach with a guy named Vince. (It was reported that Vince is a buddy of one of Palmer's co-workers).
When the police officer first encountered Michelle and Vince playing the beast with two backs on the sea shore, he let them off with a warning. When the cop returned to the scene of the crime,as it were, he found the couple at it again. This time, the cop felt obliged to arrest the pair.
"She is alleged to have called the cop a f****** Muslim **** and tried to hit him with her high-heeled shoe before being restrained."
Being a Muslim country, Dubai considers sex outside marriage to be a criminal offense. Add to that, having the sex in public, being drunk in public, and assaulting a police officer, Michelle Palmer faces a possible six year prison sentence.
It's very possible that the authorities in Dubai will want to use her as an example because the activities of the Westerners there have gotten out of hand.
I can't say I feel sorry for her.
I'm sure a good many Westerners reading this will think I'm being a bit hard on her, but she is an fine example of how we in the West have lost all common sense and decency. She doesn't take sex seriously. She doesn't understand that it is a gift to us from God and not something to be taken lightly and recklessly......with a near stranger....drunken, on the beach.....
As an aside, she and Vince may marry in the hopes that their punishment might be reduced. So much for the sanctity of marriage.

Food for Thought.

This is one of those stories that is so far-fetched that it can't possibly be anything other than a hoax.
However, the article on telegraph.co.uk claims that it's the truth, so I'll take it at face value.
According to the web site, in Britain, "the National Children's Bureau, which receives £12 million a year, mainly from Government funded organisations, has issued guidance to play leaders and nursery teachers advising them to be alert for racist incidents among youngsters in their care."
The guidance by the NCB is designed to alert teachers to potentially-racist attitudes in kids in nursery school.
One potential sign of racism in children as young as three, according to the report, is the youngster turning his nose up to "foreign" foods from overseas. Saying re-fried beans (for example) are "yucky", could be evidence that the three year old dislikes Hispanics.
"The guide goes on to warn that children might also "react negatively to a culinary tradition other than their own by saying 'yuk'".
Staff are told: 'No racist incident should be ignored. When there is a clear racist incident, it is necessary to be specific in condemning the action.'"
Are they serious?
Anyone who has spent any time around a toddler knows that they find most unfamiliar food "yucky". As a matter of fact, it's difficult to find many foods that kids that age will eat without complaining.
We can laugh because this happened in Britain and not here in the good ol' USA. But, don't laugh too hard. Something like this could happen here in the not so distant future.

Politically Incorrect Thought for the Day.

The idea that Starbucks is a "cool brand" should have been put to rest once the coffee chain opened a store in Rome, GA.
It's not that Rome is such a bad place to live.....it's just not cutting edge, if you catch my drift.
I can't remember exactly when the Starbucks opened here; actually I can't even narrow it down to the month but, I'm fairly sure it's been less than a year. I don't know (or care) if it's to be included in the 600 stores that will be closing.
It isn't that I despise Starbucks; I've never had any desire to visit one. Coffee is coffee and I'm not going to pay more for a cup of Joe than I would pay for a pound of ground coffee in even the most overpriced grocery store.
With gasoline at over $4 a gallon and with no end in sight to it's steady climb upward, we're all going to be making adjustments in our lifestyles. Restaurants and cafes will continue take hits.
It looks as if Obama's going to be swept into office by the morons longing for change. Life in this country will change, but it won't be change for the better. We'll just continue our down-hill slide. Or, as Robert Bork said, our Slouching Towards Gomorrah.

Obama wins in Latest Zogby Poll.

In the Zogby poll released July 6,2008, Obama has enough Electoral College votes to win the Presidential election in November. Zogby gives Obama 273 votes.....270 are needed to win.
The poll shows Libertarian, Bob Barr with 7% of the popular vote, nation-wide.
Of course, we know Barr has no chance of winning the election, but I'm hoping the vote goes higher than the 7% and shakes up the two-party system as we know it.

Moon mistaken for UFO in Wales.

From telegraph.co.uk :

The moon was mistaken for a "bright, stationary" UFO which had been loitering for at least half an hour, by a confused local in South Wales who made a 999 call to the police.
Today officers released a transcript in order to highlight the time wasted by unnecessary 999 calls.
The bizzare conversation ran as follows:

Control: "South Wales Police, what's your emergency?"

Caller: "It's not really. I just need to inform you that across the mountain there's a bright stationary object."

Control: "Right."

Caller: "If you've got a couple of minutes perhaps you could find out what it is? It's been there at least half an hour and it's still there."

Control: "It's been there for half an hour. Right. Is it actually on the mountain or in the sky?"

Caller: "It's in the air."

Control: "I will send someone up there now to check it out."

Caller: "OK."

After the police patrol car arrives, the script reveals the exchange between the control room and the police officer sent to the scene.

Control: "Alpha Zulu 20, this object in the sky, did anyone have a look at it?"

Officer: "Yes, it's the moon. Over."

A police spokeswoman said: "This was a recent example of an inappropriate 999 call to South Wales Police.

"Yes, we can all see the comical side but calling 999 with an unnecessary non-emergency call could block a genuine call for vital seconds and put lives at risk."

Other bizarre calls cited by the police force included someone asking for help voting for Rhydian on The X-Factor and another requesting a pound coin for their supermarket trolley.

Obama and the Born Alive Infant Protection Act.

I was surfing for something interesting to read yesterday by clicking on the "next blog" on the blogspot navigator bar. That was how I came across Did I say that outloud? . The writer describes her blog as, "Random ponderings from a free-thinking, God-fearing, grace-filled liberal."

She says in her post-Matthew 25-"It's time the "Christian Left" had a more public voice. Join me and others as we speak the truth that as Christians we are called to feed the hungry, invite in the stranger, clothe the naked, and visit those in prison."

She provides a link for the PAC The Matthew 25 Network .The PAC's site isn't complete,but they do have this statement;

"Catholic, Protestant, Pentecostal and Evangelical—inspired by the Gospel mandate to put our faith into action to care for our neighbor. We believe that people of faith should actively participate in the political process as an important avenue for social change.
We come together as individual believers to support candidates for public office who share the values of the Matthew 25 Network: promoting life with dignity, caring for the least of these, strengthening and supporting families, stewardship of God's Creation, working for peace and justice at home and abroad and promoting the common good."

The PAC claims to be inspired by this:

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,I was a stranger and you invited me in,I needed clothes and you clothed me,I was sick and you looked after me,I was in prison and you came to visit me....I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.- Matthew 25:35-40"

As I said in my comment to the blog,
"Certainly, the values expressed in Matthew 25 are commendable and we would do well to model ourselves after those words. However, Mr. Obama - with his support of abortion on command [sic] - does not count the unborn as "the least of these brothers of mine".
This attempt by Obama supporters to link him to the Christian values expressed in Matthew 25 is disgusting beyond words. How can anyone who views the unborn the way Obama does say they are helping "the least of these brothers of mine"?

NARAL supports Obama .......but, if the truth be known Obama is even more pro abortion than NARAL.

In 2002, as an Illinois legislator, Obama voted against the Induced Infant Liability Act, which would have protected babies that survived late-term abortions. The purpose of this law was to prevent doctors from abandoning infants.....the doctors could no longer leave these infants to die, alone, without medical attention.

Speaking against the Act on the IL Senate floor on March 30, 2001, Obama, the sole verbal opponent to the bill stated:

" ... I just want to suggest... that this is probably not going to survive constitutional scrutiny.
Number one, whenever we define a previable fetus as a person that is protected by the equal protection clause or the other elements in the Constitution, what we're really saying is, in fact, that they are persons that are entitled to the kinds of protections that would be provided to a - child, a nine-month-old - child that was delivered to term. That determination then, essentially, if it was accepted by a court, would forbid abortions to take place.
I mean, it - it would essentially bar abortions, because the equal protection clause does not allow somebody to kill a child, and if this is a child, then this would be an antiabortion statute. For that purpose, I think it would probably be found unconstitutional."

Jill Stanek, a nurse who pushed to have the Illinois Induced Infant Liability Act and the Federal Born Alive Infant Protection Act passed testified, "It is not uncommon for a live aborted baby to linger for an hour or two or even longer. At Christ Hospital one of these babies lived for almost an entire eight-hour shift".

Obama's support for abortion is so extreme that he even supports infanticide.

Should McCain choose Romney ?

The Republicans are testing the waters; first, there was the article at politico.com that claims Romney tops McCain veep list. Then comes the interview in newsmax.com where Mitt Romney trashes Obama.
We're all wondering who McCain will pick as VP....after all, the guy is a pretty old geezer and it's possible that he might bite the big one while in office (assuming he wins,of course). For some Conservatives, his choice for VP could make all the difference in the world.
I had supported Romney in the Republican primaries, but I'm not sure that having him on the ticket would be enough to bring me back from the Bob Barr camp. I'm not at all happy with Romney's opinion on the recent Supreme Court decision regarding habeas corpus . In the Newsmax interview he compares giving the terrorists habeas corpus to "calling up the local police department and asking the DA to prosecute them.”
Romney is right,on the other hand, when he says,
“What we’re facing right now in al-Qaida and global violent jihadism is an enemy which has relatively crude weapons but highly motivated warriors.Over the next decade or two, they will surely obtain highly sophisticated weapons with massive casualty potential. Now is the time to stop this enemy, because the consequences of ignoring them until they have massive casualty capability are almost unthinkable.”
It's obvious that the GOP favors military action in fighting terrorists, but I'm just not sure how the Republicans want to deal with the jihadists once we capture them.

Surrender to the Inevitable.

In an earlier post [ people-from-around-world-favor-obama ] I reported that polls show people from nearly everywhere prefer Obama over rival John McCain.

Now, we learn from ctv.ca that Canadians even prefer Obama over their own leaders.
"The bi-national survey, conducted by the Strategic Counsel for CTV and The Globe and Mail, showed that here in Canada, Obama was more admired than Prime Minister Stephen Harper"...26% over 21%.

What are we to make of this phenomenon?
We can only come to one conclusion.
We should all, for the betterment of all mankind, pick Obama as our New Earth world leader and emperor.
Surrender to the inevitable.

Fashion ?

The headline at breibert.com read: Men's fashion gets a feminine touch at Paris shows.
The article tells us of "wardrobe androgyny","the union of genders" and "female detailing with a masculine silhouette".
The fashions may have "won a standing ovation from hundreds of fashionistas in Paris" but the clothes are unlikely to win applause from any men I know.
Do these designers actually believe men will wear this crap? I can't even imagine the usually "stylish" Hollywood types putting on these outfits.
The writer of the article describes some as "ultra-daring"........this isn't "ultra-daring"; it's an absurd, sick joke.

That moment just before the pain begins....

I received an email from my friend,Mickey, entitled "That moment just before the pain begins....."
The email contains a series of images which show just that....that horrible instant before you feel unspeakable pain.
I've uploaded the images here.
Beware; these images are not for the squeamish.
