VW Beetle - number 73
Note:This will be simultaneously posted to all three of my blogs-

Anyone who has followed me for any length of time is aware of my occasional posting of photos of Volkswagen Beetles that I might happen upon while roaming about Dumaguete and Sibulan. This will be the 70th VW post published onto the first blog. Those 70 posts have featured 73 different Beetles - not including the VWs featured in a blog post on VWs in Davao.
As has been my routine for over a year, I went out early this morning on my bicycle. I don't always take the same route; I'm likely to go anywhere within a five or six mile radius of my home. Today, I took a slight detour toward the Negros Oriental Convention Center not far from the Main Campus of Negros Oriental State University.
As I passed an office of the Highway Patrol, I spotted the VW Beetle I'm featuring here.

A VW Update
This afternoon I went with 3 American friends to have lunch at Cubiertos Restaurant in Sibulan. It was the first time I had visited this particular restaurant in quite some time......it's probably been more than a year.
Something new has been added.
My regular readers know that whenever I come upon a VW Beetle in the area, I will photograph said Beetle and post the photos to my blog. (now "blogs"). In Oct. 2018 I took photos of a VW parked at Cubiertos Restaurant that was basically serving as a large flower pot. One of the photos from that time is posted below.
Today, I find that that VW has been updated. Looking closely at the body, I'm sure it is the same VW....only now it's painted yellow and is no longer holding flowers.
I've no idea why the change was made. I'm simply reporting it.

A New VW Post
Having discovered the ends and outs of the road I called "entrance X" [And it Comes Out Where? ] the road has become a semi-regular part of my morning bicycle ride. The first time I traveled that road, I had come down Rovira Drive from Camanjac - the second time, from the Xuekashi Motorparts store and then left down Rovira Drive to Pulantubig. Today, it was my intention to enter at the motor parts store, then cross Rovira onto Boni Catarata, and ride to my friend's place on Motong Rd.
Unfortunately, my friend wasn't home, but the trip was not a total washout. While on Boni Catarata, I happened upon a old VW Beetle parked along the road.
Anyone familiar with my other blog, sorryalltheclevernamesaretaken will recall that a regular feature was my blog posts and photos of Volkswagen Beetles I came upon while wandering through Dumaguete.
With the coming of COVID, I spent less time driving around Dumaguete and I had not taken a new photo of a VW Beetle since March 04, 2020.
So naturally, coming across this VW this morning, I had to take a few photos and post them.
This post will be published in both blogs - sorryalltheclevernamesaretaken and robertsimms.blogspot.com.

The VWs of Davao
Since November 22, 2016 I've been posting photos of VW Beetles that I happen upon in Dumaguete and the surrounding areas. At this point, I've posted photos in excess of 70 Beetles.
Knowing my obsession with Volkswagens, my friend Dom sent two Hot Wheels Volkswagens to me in January. That was before the pandemic hit and it seems so long ago.
Today, Dom sent an email with photos of VW Beetles. He lives in Davao and I'm assuming these VWs are in Davao as well. From the look of the streets, they could be in Anytown, Philippines. With the exception of the "Sponge Bob" VW, these look pretty much like the ones I've seen in Dumaguete ......even down to the beat-up white one.
I'm curious to know the back story of these VWs from Davao. I suspect that they are either owned by one man or else there's a sort of local VW club there.

Two VW Photos From 2014
I haven't published a post about Volkswagens in Dumaguete since March of this year when I posted a photo of a VW parked along Hibbard Ave. I haven't really been out and about in the city during these days of the pandemic, so I haven't taken too many new photos of any kind.
After having some work done on my PC , I've spent time going thru the photos stored on the PC and doing some much needed editing and culling.
While going thru my old photos, I came upon these two VW photos from a Silliman University Founder's Day parade in 2014.

Number 62 - Revisited
While taking my son to school this morning, I spotted this VW Beetle parked along Hibbard Ave. When I returned home, I checked my records and it turns out that this Beetle is one I posted on April 26, 2019 - VW Number Sixty Two .

Two Toned Beetle
After dropping my son off at school this morning, I thought I'd take an alternate route home in order to take a few photos for Google Maps.
Mission accomplished. I was able to add photos of Hayahay Treehouse Bar - Lantaw Native Restaurant - and - Cafe Racer.
Just as I passed Cafe Racer, I spotted a VW Beetle parked on the opposite side of the street. I parked my car and took these photos. This VW is # 68 in my collection.

A Hidden VW.
A few days ago, while passing Rusi Ball Field on San Jose St., I saw a dilapidated VW Beetle parked at a house across from the ball field. I drive thru that area quite often, but had never seen this VW before this. The gate was opened that day, which explains why it was noticeable to me for the first time.
I didn't have my camera with me that day, so I wasn't able to photograph the Beetle until this morning as I returned home from taking my son to school.
The gate was closed, so I wasn't able to get as clear a shot as the view I got a few days ago. Also, it was 7:00 AM on a cloudy morning; the light wasn't the best for taking photos.

The Town has Two New Volkswagen Beetles
In an earlier post I mentioned that, in addition to a Kindle, my friend Dom would be including some surprises in a package he would be sending to me.
Much to my delight, the "surprises" were two Hot Wheels Volkswagens - a Custom Volkswagen Beetle and a Volkswagen Kafer Racer .
Now, the town has two new Volkswagen Beetles.
I haven't removed the cars from the packaging - not sure that I will. I did, however, download photos of the Hot Wheels which will be shown below.

First VW of 2020
Having finished eating at Los Mariachis Saturday and finding it too early to fetch our son from the birthday party he was attending, my wife and I drove to Robinson's Mall for some old-fashioned window shopping.
Pulling into the mall, we fell in behind a black VW Beetle. It has been ages since I was last able to photograph a random VW in Dumaguete. It's certainly the first VW photo I've taken this year.
Unfortunately, these photos aren't very good. Both photos were taken from inside my moving car......while the VW was moving in one photo as well.

You Win Some. You Lose Some.
While taking my son to school this morning, I saw a bronze colored VW Beetle fast approaching me. Unfortunately, circumstances did not allow me to photograph it as we passed one another.
After dropping my son off, I drove up Aldecoa Dr. and spotted this yellow one parked just below Silliman Univ. Hospital. Although I've photographed quite a few yellow VWs, a quick check of the license plate let me know that I hadn't come upon this particular one before.

VW Number 64
Upon taking a short cut to Thunder Road Bar and Grill to meet friends for breakfast, I spotted this VW across from the SSS Office in Dumaguete.
To the best of my knowledge, this is the 64th VW Beetle I've spotted in the area.

The Marlboro Playboy VW Beetle
I came upon this Beetle on Hibbard Ave. while waiting for my son to be dismissed from school.
After seeing the "Marlboro Playboy" decal on the passenger side, I knew right away that I have never come upon this particular VW Beetle.I'm therefore labeling this one # 63.

VW Number Sixty Two
Over the last few days, I've come upon this VW Beetle while driving in Dumaguete. I was unable to photograph the Beetle until this morning as I was headed to the gym.
Looking thru my photo collection, it appears that this was the first time I took a photograph of this particular one. This one makes number 62.

The Mustard Colored Beetle
Oh my goodness.
Has it really been more than a month since I last posted anything onto this blog?
I suppose if I hadn't happened upon this mustard colored VW Beetle I wouldn't be posting anything at all now.
I've come upon a couple of VWs recently, but I either didn't have my camera with me, or I spotted the car while driving. I'm tagging this one # 61.

Canary Yellow VW Beetle
I spotted this VW Beetle parked along the boulevard, just south of Bethel Guest House. Judging by the canary yellow color, I believe this one may be the same as the first one I posted on this blog in November, 2016.
The hub caps appear to be different, but those can be upgraded easily enough.
The only way I could definitively know if they are the same would be by comparing the license plates. Sadly, I began hiding the numbers since the beginning of my posting of the VWs photos.

A Neglected Lime Green Beetle
As I've mentioned before, on days when my son is in school, I'll drive into Dumaguete long before time for him to be let out of class,so that I might find a suitable parking spot along Hibbard Ave. near the gate where he exits. I'll spend the time roaming around the city on foot. Most of the time I head south towards Lee Plaza or McDonald's, but this afternoon I went north in the direction of the Coco Grande Hotel.
I don't often walk in that direction, but I had an urge to do so today.
Just before reaching the Coco Grande, I noticed a little side street between the hotel and a section of the high school. I call this a side street because it's paved, though I could tell it wasn't open to traffic. Continuing to follow my hunch, I walked down the little street.
It actually winds down around the high school, but I didn't go that far. It was on this little street that I came upon this lime green VW Beetle.
When I came upon the Maslog VW on Sunday, I opened the back to see if there was an engine. I didn't do that with this lime green Beetle, but it's obvious that it hasn't moved in a long time.
