Having finished reading the four books by H.G. Wells that I listed in a previous post, I've decided to read an early translation of José Rizal's novel Noli Me Tángere. The translation of the Latin title is "Touch Me Not" - a phrase spoken, according to John 20:17, by Jesus to Mary Magdalene when she recognized him after his resurrection. The 1912 translation by Charles Derbyshire (the one I'll be reading) is titled The Social Cancer.
Several yeras ago, I read a translation by María Soledad Lacson-Locsin (in actual book form) which I have packed away.
Following Noli Me Tángere, I'll read Derbyshire's translation of the novel's sequel, El Filibusterismo.
