You'll Never Get Rich By Digging a Ditch

After what seems like an eternity, we're starting to make headway toward getting the house built.

We've already gotten together with the man who'll be in charge of building the house. It was decided that we'd go ahead and begin work on the septic tank for the house. The tank will be located near the piggery. Those who have followed this blog for a bit may recall the posts on the septic tank built to hold the waste generated by the pigs. For that tank, my wife's papa used only one helper. This time, he'll be supervising the work - we've hired three men to do the actual physical work.

My wife and I went to the property this afternoon and the work had already begun. While we were there, the hollow block company attempted to deliver the 350 blocks needed for the tank. For some reason they tried to deliver the block in a motorcycle powered contraption. The driver was afraid to drive down the right of way onto the property; he wanted to leave it at the top of the right of way. That would have involved quite a lot of work for us to tote the blocks down to the property, so my wife's papa told him we would refuse delivery if he tried that. The driver went back to the company to have to blocks delivered in a mini dump truck.

The previous delivery of blocks for the piggery was delivered by mini dump truck, so there shouldn't be a problem. The blocks had not been delivered by the time we left. I don't know if the delivery will be made today or if they'll wait until Monday.

In addition to beginning the septic tank, the helpers butchered the pig this afternoon. That story will follow in my next post.
